  1. Hello,
I am planning on writing a research paper on the Battle of Lundy’s Lane. I am planning on focussing on the strategy and tactics of the campaign. Can you please recommend any primary sources or any one who might be knowledgeable about the campaign that can be of service?
    Thank you, John

    • Hi John,

The Battle of Lundy’s Lane was one of the events of the 1814 Niagara Campaign. The lead-up to the battle, as well as the strategy and tactics during the battle itself, are extensively covered in the definitive book on the battle: Donald E. Graves’ book Where Right and Glory Lead! The Battle of Lundy’s Lane, 1814.

Graves researched primary sources extensively, and cites these as well as secondary sources. He even consulted a noted astronomer regarding the position and fullness of the moon that night and thereby determine who, among the battle participants, could see what.

I would recommend that as your starting point (publication details are on this website under “The History”). The 50 pages of Endnotes and Bibliography will be very useful tools for a research paper. Some of the primary source documents listed therein can now be found online.
